Differences between IEC 61850 and IEC 60870

Whereas under IEC 60870, the selection of the command mode in zenon is configured by means of parameters, this is carried out in IEC 61850 by means of the control model of the logical node and then at protocol level. Also, the command and response variables are defined differently. Under IEC 60870, they are defined by selecting the type ID (numerically)


IEC 61850 GOOSE (Generic Object Oriented Substation Event)

Maximum performance is of crucial importance when communicating between field devices. With IEC 61850 the GOOSE protocol is used. GOOSE is a real-time network protocol. Status information is transferred from field to field at regular intervals. A typical application is the interlocking system (replaces wiring between the field devices).
